If you want to put pretty little checkmarks beside your goals, make faster progress than you've ever made before towards designing a life that feels successful to you, then listen up because I have SIX incredibly helpful habits that ARE NOT "drink more water" "wake up at 6 AM" or any of that nonsense.
There is no seventeen-step morning routine here which will suddenly make you the most productive human on the planet.
What I will share however is proven methods & habits and honestly... a very different method for thinking which is going to lead you to the success you want to have this year.
So let's get into it!
Number 1: Batch Working
THIS habit is so extremely-powerful, so incredibly science-backed, so highly utilized by all the successful people, and so freaking easy that once you start it, you'll wonder how the heck you ever got along without it. Not to mention, mastering this first habit is going to be essential for you to master habit number 2 which we'll speak about in a moment.
Batch working is so powerful because it takes an unbelievable amount of time to set up for a task, get into the details of what you're doing, mentally focus and remind yourself of work you potentially got halfway through last time.
There's also work that makes you much more ineffective at other tasks. For example, if I have a call or meeting, I can't get my brain to focus on any big work or creative work for the day.
So start batching your work into themes and knocking out similar work on the same day, think about the mental capacities & practical setup work that might be necessary for the type of work you do, and begin batching it.
Habit number 2: Getting ahead
Do you ever feel like you're always trying to catch up?
Balls are dropping, clients are emailing, things need to get done and you never seem to be able to stay afloat?
If that's the case then I want you to begin cultivating. Habit #2: Getting ahead.
This generally involves slowing down for a moment to do one of two things.
If the reason you're always behind is because you're putting too many projects on your plate, take a month or even a quarter to NOT do that, just do the bare minimum to get along in your core work, and get ahead.
If however, you're honestly just doing the bare minimum now and still can't keep up, it's time for an overhaul of your systems. Maybe you need a better client process, or a more automated system to enable you to get ahead. No matter what it is, take some time to identify the problem and the solution.
I'll be honest with you, I think when you're in this hustle & overwhelm, you assume it's the same for everyone and that's just the nature of running a business and being an entrepreneur.
But the honest truth is, that's actually not the case. Plenty of business owners sit down to work everyday calm, knowing nothing needs immediate attention or work.
They have peace of mind knowing they are ahead and can go about their work more thoroughly & intentionally, because they're not scrambling to catch up.
So get ahead, and stop with the last-minute scramble. When you're ahead you'll have so many better ideas & implement better, leading to better results in your life & business.
Habit #3: A Project Management System
This one might just be the most powerful on the list ... it's so extremely effective at helping you achieving goals, it's not even funny.
How do you know you need this next habit?
You're probably struggling with that chaos we spoke about earlier, you're probably remembering things you need to do in the middle of the night, you're probably feeling stressed about making clients happy & keeping everything afloat.
If that's the case, you need a project management system, like, Asana for example.
It's a system in which all your work, your appointments, your one off and your recurring projects live.
You get that to-do list out of your brain and into Asana and I promise you, your life will change.
Some people call their project management systems their second brains, and I couldn't agree more. If peace of mind is what you're after, here’s a video where I give you a tour through my Asana so you can see what a well organized business & life looks like and get started building it out for yourself too!
Habit #4: Intentional planning.
If you don't already have a habit of every few months or so of evaluating where you're at and where you want to go and mapping the road to get there... it's time you started!
Most people have a vague idea of where they want to end up, and hop from one shiny object to the next along the way, trying and hoping that this next hack or strategy or social media platform will help them hit that super successful business & life they've always dreamed of.
But what most people don't do is set time aside for this. PLAN for planning.
Give themselves the peace and brain space and time to THINK.
The most successful people in the world schedule thinking time... and so it might be useful for you to do the same. Think about where you want to be, work backwards and make an intentional plan, instead of being a scatterbrain chasing after every new thing which someone says is the latest hack or opportunity of the moment.
If you want more on this planning process, I sat down with Shay from the bucketlistbombshells, a girl who has built a million dollar online empire to discuss her intentional planning system, and how she decides what to work on next. Here’s that vid for ya!
Habit #5: Have clear decision making criteria
There are 12,000 decision you could make. 12,000 projects you could do. 12,000 revenue stream ideas you could implement in your business.
But not all of those ideas are good ideas FOR YOU!
Literally, the same great idea could be out there and it could be right for her but wrong for you.
That's because it's all about the lens through which you make a decision.
Lemme explain it.
The key criteria by which I make a business decision by are this:
Does it bring me joy?
Is this the most efficient use of our time & resources?
Is it in integrity?
Joy, efficiency & integrity are the 3 core values by which I run my business & life by, so all decisions & ideas needs to pass those 3 hurdles for us to implement them.
Checking 2 out of 3 boxes isn't enough, it's got to be all 3.
For example, my team and I recently got together in Mallorca for a team retreat. We were chatting about a potential project which our community had asked us for. It would have brought me joy, it would have made logical sense for the business, it would have been 100% in integrity.
BUT we had another idea which we knew would be easier to implement which would help us achieve the same if not higher revenue numbers.
So the idea didn't pass the efficiency test. It wasn't the most effieicient thing we could be doing with our time. So we decided to pass on it.
Those 3 items I spoke about, those are my businesses core values, but honestly, I hated the term core values and railed against it for ages. When I started seeing core values however as the lens through which I'd approve or shoot down an idea, values suddenly started making a lot of sense.
So habit number 5 is to filter ALL your decisions through your core values decision making lens.
Habit number 6: This one, if you implement it, will lead you to your goals faster than you ever thought possible. If you want the rocket fuel of ticking off goals, THIS HABIT IS IT! What is it? I actually created an entire video about this one, so watch this video next and I'll explain in details the #1 thing you need to do to blaze through that goals list at lightening speed…
